Chao Neng Lifang: Chaofan Pian

In an accident, an ordinary boy, Wang Xiaoxiu, obtains a space system called "Superpower Cube" from a high-latitude cosmic civilization and gains extraordinary powers. When the school belle, Shen Yao, Wang Xiaoxiu’s longtime crush, confesses her love to him, the delinquent Sun Jun, who also has a crush on her, is provoked.

Wang Xiaoxiu resolves the crisis with his wit and extraordinary powers, but it also brings more disasters as a result. Shen Yao is taken to the world of extraordinary beings by a mysterious person, and Wang Xiaoxiu embarks on a journey to rescue her. Chao Neng Lifang: Chaofan Pian – 6/10

Chao Neng Lifang: Chaofan Pian is one of those anime that immediately grabs your attention with its visual quality. The animation is impressively fluid—especially during the action scenes, which often feel alive and dynamic. There were moments I had to pause just to admire how well certain frames were crafted. It's clear that a lot of care went into the visual presentation, and that alone sets it apart from many shows out there.

But as any seasoned viewer knows, stunning animation can only carry a series so far. While the premise is solid and the setting feels fresh, the storytelling ... tends to stumble. The characters aren’t as fleshed out as they could be, and some plot developments feel rushed or underexplained. You get the sense that there’s more depth waiting to be explored, but the show only skims the surface. As the episodes progressed, I found myself staying mostly for the visuals, hoping the narrative would catch up.

Still, I can’t ignore how much potential this show has. As someone who's always on the lookout for alternatives to mainstream Japanese anime, I found this series to be a refreshing change of pace. Chinese animation is growing rapidly, and while this isn’t a perfect example, it’s a clear sign of what’s possible in the near future.

I genuinely hope there will be a second season. The story and characters deserve more room to grow, and with a bit more focus, this could evolve into something truly great. For now, it’s a visually impressive, moderately enjoyable watch—but one that leaves you curious and optimistic for what's to come.

Mixed Feelings

Preliminary (7/12 eps)

I'm 7 episodes in and I fell that it's fine. It completely depends on your expectations though.

Let's start with cons. First of all, the story in this show is basically non-existent. We get the basic premise in the first 2 episodes and that's the driving force for the main character. The premise is as cliche as it gets: "I am going to protect you!". There's not much more to it. Although on that note, the enigmatic character from the beginning of the story reappears and at this point I cannot tell whether the plot will develop or not. Since I'm already over half way in, ... I highly doubt it will happen though.

Oh and the plot item with it's mechanics - idea is fine, I don't think I've seen much of it before, but it's nothing too original. It's just another rip-off of your basic RPG power-up system. Again, it has it's backgroud that is meaningless at this point of the show.

Dialogues are weird. Even though there is not much plot to begin with and there's barely any complexity to it, sometimes it feels hard to follow. Maybe it's me getting lost in the Chinese names, since I'm not used to watching to non-Japanese productions, but at times the show introduces this weird background net of connections between people, that is ultimately useless. Sometimes it feels forcefully stiched together. Random "comedic" lines are randomly thrown here and there, completely not matching the setting or situation. Nor the MC to be honest, being a "funny guy" just doesn't fit him.

Characters? Basic. Basic "I'm gonna push myself to save you" protagonist, basic caring girlfriend, basic bully/gang mob antagonists with a sprinkle of psychos and superpowers. Not much to write home about.

Now for the pros (I guess?). Action. The series is basically packed to the brim with combat. For the most part we're talking about hand-to-hand combat with boosted strength. Sometimes some fancier powers appear. I must say, it is pretty satifying, especially one of the latest episodes I've seen, which contained a 15 minutes of well animated 1 on 1 fight. That's probably the only thing that really keeps me interested in the next episode.

Visually it's nothing too exciting, but the fights feel real pleasant to the eye. Other than action, it's pretty basic with oddly drawn character face here and there (I think it's supposed to be comedic gag, but with how bad the dialogues are, it's hard to catch on...).

I can't say much for audio, cause I barely hear differences between shows, unless it's exceptionally good or exceptionally bad. It's neither, so I guess it's a plus.

Preliminary (3/12 eps)

As my first review, I wanted to dive into this particular anime for one reason: the hype surrounding its animation. TikTok clips had me intrigued, with some claiming its visuals rivaled the likes of Jujutsu Kaisen. Having already read the manhua (Chinese comics), I wasn’t here for the story—it’s essentially a weaker version of Solo Leveling, both in the manhua and now in its anime adaptation. But I thought, "Maybe the animation could make up for it." So, I gave it a shot.

The first episode delivered on its promise. The three-minute fight sequence was stunning—arguably on par with JJK, if not slightly better. However, my ... excitement quickly faded with episodes two and three. The quality took a nosedive, with poorly animated frames reminiscent of the infamous Seven Deadly Sins Season 3 disaster. It felt like the trailer baited us with peak animation only to leave us disappointed afterward. Sure, there might be future episodes with high-priority scenes that look great, but consistency is clearly lacking.

If you’re looking for something akin to Solo Leveling and don’t mind a subpar story, this anime might still be enjoyable. However, if you’re chasing peak-quality animation or storytelling, this isn’t it. It feels more like a forgettable street food experience—momentarily satisfying but nothing special. For now, Solo Leveling remains leagues ahead in both story and consistency.
